Hello Reader,
I’ve watched too many brilliant women burn out trying to fix toxic bosses.
Before you do anything else, protect your energy first.
I know that sounds basic. But I’ve seen too many brilliant women burn out trying to “fix” a person or a culture that was never theirs to fix.
So here’s what I’d recommend:
Step 1: Strengthen yourself.
You may not be able to control how the people around you behave. But you can control how you respond, and how much you let it bleed into your evenings and weekends.
Choose things that give you energy outside of work. This isn’t “self-care fluff.” This is a strategy. You need a strong mindset before you take the next steps.
Step 2: Evaluate your options carefully.
Find people you can trust. Inside and outside of your organisation.
A word of caution: I’ve heard quite a few stories of women who confided in colleagues internally — and it didn’t go well.
If that happens, at least it gives you clarity: you know whether this is still a company you want to be part of.
Step 3: Find your next move.
Look for options that genuinely excite you. Options that are a real fit for what you want next.
And then take the step.
Because you are worth so much more. And you deserve an environment where you feel encouraged, safe, and supported to grow.
You can do it! 🙋♀️💪
