Hello Reader,
High performance doesn’t protect you from feeling completely stuck at work. “I’m highly motivated and ambitious. But my work just isn’t fun anymore.”
A woman I spoke with recently told me this.
She had been excelling in her role for years.
Delivering results.
Getting recognition.
Doing all the things.
But internally? She felt stuck.
She wasn’t growing anymore. She’d already started looking for her next challenge, including starting an MBA.
And on top of it all, she was putting pressure on herself to function perfectly at work AND at home with her family.
Sound familiar?
Here’s what can help:
• Recognise that you are in a transition phase.
It’s completely normal not to feel great right now. Transitions are uncomfortable. That doesn’t mean something is wrong with you; it means something is changing.
• Lower the expectations you place on yourself.
I know this is hard – really hard! You don’t have to be perfect at everything, everywhere, all the time. Focus on what matters to you. Your own (mental and physical) health and your family will always be the glass balls that you do not want to drop.
• Define what ambition and success mean to YOU.
Not your family’s version. Not your boss’ version. Yours. Create a vision of where you want to go. This may or may not include the MBA. Only you can tell.
• Reflect on what “fun” actually means for you at work.
And then work to incorporate more of it, step by step, over time.
You don’t have to have it all figured out right now. But you do deserve to feel energised by your work again.
You can do it! 🙋♀️💪
