Hello Reader,
When I was 18, I left Germany and moved to the UK to study Chemistry at the University of Oxford. I vividly remember sitting in my very first Physical Chemistry lecture during my first week there. The lecturer referred to the “moment of inertia” as a “straightforward” concept.
As a non-native English speaker, I didn’t even know what “inertia” or “straightforward” meant. I translated both using my dictionary. The lecture felt anything but straightforward. I sat there holding back tears, overwhelmed and wondering if I was in over my head.
But within four years, I graduated with a first-class degree in Chemistry from Oxford. It wasn’t easy—it was a lot of hard work—but I came out stronger and more resilient.
Here’s what I learned, and it’s something I carry with me every day:
💡Do things before you’re ready. Push through the fear. The growth you’ll experience is beyond anything you can imagine.
💡Be kind. If you see someone struggling, offer your help. Things can feel incredibly hard when you’re in an unfamiliar environment or speaking a language that isn’t your own.
👉 Do you have a big step you want to take, and you don’t feel ready?
You can do it! 🙋♀️💪
