We bought back 8 hours a week. Here\u2019s how.<\/p>\n

I used to always do things myself. I remember what it was like as a student \u2014 bulk-buying pasta when it was reduced and lugging it home on my bike. Or taking the overnight bus to Stansted airport because it was cheaper than the train. Yes, it took longer, but it saved me money.<\/p>\n

A few years ago, I realised I was still operating with the same mindset. And then I\u2019d spend half a weekend day cleaning the flat with my partner.<\/p>\n

Then someone ahead of me said one sentence to me:<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can always get more money, but not more time.\u201d<\/p>\n

It took me a while to let that sink in.<\/p>\n

Now I\u2019m a strong advocate for it.<\/p>\n

What did we change?<\/p>\n

We now have a cleaner who comes every two weeks and makes sure the flat gets that base level of cleanliness. This means we have our weekends back as family time rather than chore time.<\/p>\n

We get our groceries delivered. Yes, it costs more \u2014 but it saves us about three hours a week of supermarket trips.<\/p>\n

We have a Thermomix that saves us a lot of time, while still enabling us to cook fresh meals.<\/p>\n

We have a hoover robot on a schedule.<\/p>\n

And we have a wonderful babysitter who occasionally buys us two hours of Me-time, so we can show up with more energy for the kids.<\/p>\n

My learning was that at a certain point in life, I value time more than money \u2014 because I can\u2019t get more time.<\/p>\n
